Because of the new visuals this new release will age so much better over time. Reviews on Steam are very positive, for whatever reason userscore is blocked on metacritic, the first 7 reviews are all 10s and one 9. Users on the other hand are another story, and that's why i don't think it's all that negative: there is a vocal fanbase around the game, and youtubers in recent history made good essays / reviews explaining why Pathologic is so unique and shouldn't be forgotten. You don't understand much if you rush Pathologic. RPS review of the original game was the work of that specific person who spent more time with the game instead of rushing for a quick review.
It's very unfortunate cause these games often have new perspectives in gaming, and it is refreshing since most games are american and japanese, i think the gaming community should be more inclusive, reviewers included. To be clear there are flaws, but you read those reviews and journalists don't seem to care about finding the deeper meanings on things, that's why they're all poorly written, you question whether the reviewer understood the real goal of the game behind surviving 12 days. That's western press for you, russian games are criticized no matter what (i don't remember a single russian game with good press from the west), even if the game was flawless you'd have seen picky journalists review bombing.
